yào shì 。 。 。 （ de huà ） if ... you can omit the "de hua"

yào shì 。 。 。 （ de huà ）
要  是  。 。 。 （ 的 话  ）
if ...,you can omit the "de hua".

 

For instance:

1. A:  wǒ nénɡ jìn lái mɑ ？
1. A:  我 能   进  来  吗 ？
May I come in?

wǒ shì xiǎo zhānɡ de nǚ pénɡ you ，
我 是  小   张    的 女 朋   友  ，
I am Xiao Zhang's girlfriend,

tā yào wǒ lái bānɡ tā qǔ wén jiàn 。
他 要  我 来  帮   他 取 文  件   。
he asked me to take his file.

B ： wǒ jiàn ɡuò tā de nǚ pénɡ you ，
B ： 我 见   过  他 的 女 朋   友  ，
I saw his girlfriend,

hé nǐ zhǎnɡ dé bù yí yànɡ ！
和 你 长    得 不 一 样   ！
you look different!

A ： wǒ xiǎnɡ ， nǐ jiàn ɡuò de shì tā qián nǚ yǒu 。
A ： 我 想    ， 你 见   过  的 是  他 前   女 友  。
I think whom you've seen is his ex.

B ： méi yǒu bɑ ， wǒ zuó tiān cái jiàn ɡuò ，
B ： 没  有  吧 ， 我 昨  天   才  见   过  ，
no way,I just met her yesterday,

nǐ méi ɡǎo cuò bɑ ， bù hǎo yì si ，
你 没  搞  错  吧 ， 不 好  意 思 ，
are you sure you are not getting wrong place,I am sorry,

qǐnɡ jiào tā zì jǐ lái ná
请   叫   他 自 己 来  拿
please ask himself to take the file.

C ： wǒ tīnɡ shuō xiǎo zhānɡ hé tā nǚ yǒu fēn shǒu le ，
C ： 我 听   说   小   张    和 他 女 友  分  手   了 ，
I heard Xiaozhang broke up with his gf,

ér qiě yòu chónɡ xīn zhǎo le yí ɡè 。
而 且  又  重    新  找   了 一 个 。
and he got a new one.

B ： ā  ？ nǐ shuō de shì zuó tiān nà de nà nǚ hái mɑ ？
B ： 啊 ？ 你 说   的 是  昨  天   那 的 那 女 孩  吗 ？
Ah?You mean the girl who came to my office yesterday?

yào shì tā shuō de shì zhēn de huà ，
要  是  她 说   的 是  真   的 话  ，
if what she said is true,

nà wǒ men kě nénɡ wù huì tā le ！
那 我 们  可 能   误 会  她 了 ！
then I maybe misunderstand her!

 

2.  wǒ cāi xiǎnɡ ：
2.  我 猜  想    ：
I guess:

rú ɡuǒ （ or  yào shì ） tā bù xǐ huɑn zhōnɡ ɡuó de huà,
如 果  （ or  要  是  ） 他 不 喜 欢   中    国  的 话 ,
if he doesn't like China,

tā jiù bú huì zhè me nǔ lì de xué zhōnɡ wén le 。
他 就  不 会  这  么 努 力 的 学  中    文  了 。
He won't learn Chinese so hard.

 

3.  yào shì wǒ men qù tài wǎn de huà ，
3.  要  是  我 们  去 太  晚  的 话  ，
If we don't arrive there too late,

jiù mǎi bú dào huǒ chē piào le 。
就  买  不 到  火  车  票   了 。
then we can't get train tickets.

or  huǒ chē piào jiù mài wán liǎo
or  火  车  票   就  卖  完  了
Train tickets are going to be sold out.
